DUCKS TAKE 2-0 SERIES LEAD

Greg Grant gets a Subway Game Star

At St. Margaret's Centre on Saturday night the Ducks survived a wild one to post a 5-3 win over the Royals and take a 2-0 series lead.

Despite being badly out shot in the first period (21-9) the Ducks managed to head to the dressing room with a 2-0 lead, thanks to stellar play by goalie Travis Smith and goals from Brandon Duffy ( Doug Hore and Andrew Bellefontaine), and Jake Bullen (Tyler MacDonald and Nick Hart). The Duffy goal came just 12 seconds into the game, with the Bullen goal just 1.09 from the end of the period. In between it was all Royals, but they couldn't get it into the net.

The second period saw the Ducks take a 4-0 lead, with goals at 4.54 and 5.29. Scoring for the Ducks were Davey Shea (Duffy and Bullen), and Duffy again (Bullen and Todd Martin). The Royals then came alive, scoring three times (two from Trevor Boyd and one from Sam Webb) to be down just 4-3 after two periods. Penalty problems for the Ducks provided plenty of opportunities for the Royals, and they took some advantage with Webbs goal coming on a 5 on 3 powerplay.

In the third, the Ducks managed to shut down the Royals, who had their own penalty problems. The only goal came from Nic Jessome at 8.59 (Greg Grant and MacDonald).

Shots on goal favoured the Royals by 42-33. The Subway game stars were Brandon Duffy, Travis Smith and Greg Grant.

The Ducks host the Royals again this Tuesday at 7 PM for game 3, looking to take a commanding lead in the best of seven series.
