DUCKS WIN AGAIN

2010-01-17

Nick Hart nets the shootout winner!!

The Ducks extended their lead in the Fred Fox Division to 12 points with a shoot out win against the Penguins at St. Margaret’s Centre on Saturday. This marked the Ducks’ (20-5-1) third win in a week.

The Penguins opened the scoring (Evan Dickie from Matt Anthony) at 1.28 of the 1st period. Four minutes later the Ducks' Nic Jessome (Doug Hore and Adam Woodland) tied it up on the powerplay and the teams went to the dressing room tied at one.  The Ducks outshot the Penguins 17-7 in the 1st.

In the second Doug Hore scored a short-handed goal from Adam Woodland at 2.46 to give the home team a 2-1 lead. Then at 8.40 the Penguins' Shane Robar (Anthony and Ryan Mitchell) tied the game on the power play. Three and a half minutes later the Ducks regained the lead with a powerplay goal from captain Mark Blanchard ( Matt Shannon and Brandon Duffy).

After the second period the Ducks had a slim 3-2 lead but the shots favoured the Penguins 15-8 in the period.

At 11.41 Duffy (Andrew Bellefontaine and Jake Bullen) made it 4-2 for the Ducks with a powerplay goal, the third powerplay goal of the game for the Ducks.  However the penguins fought back with two goals from Anthony (the first with Dickie, and second with Chris Pongoski and Travis Gibbon).  It was quite a comeback for the Penguins, which lost to the Ducks in East Hants the night before by a score of 8-1.

In the period the Penguins held a slim 14-13 shot advantage, with shots overall being 38-37 in favour of the Penguins.

The 5-minute overtime was scoreless, and Nick Hart became the Duck’s hero with the winning shootout.

First game star was Doug Hore (BD); second game star Matt Anthony (EHP); third game star Adam Woodland (BD).

The Ducks meet the Elks at the centre next Saturday at 7 PM.
